Headphones & Hormones

They've outgrown the highchairs, they can't hear a word you say, and you don't know whose hormones are worse, yours or theirs. Here's my take on parenting teens as a perimenopausal single mom in 2025.

About Me

About Me

Hey there. Thanks for stopping by my neck of the internet woods. Stick around and I might make you laugh, I might make you cry, and I’ll probably make you wonder if it’s easy to have your own cool website (it’s certainly not that hard).

This site used to be called “Highchairs and Headaches,” and I’m returning after a bit of a pause (only six years, nbd), to talk about my life again in case anyone wondered whether I was still alive.

The new name is growing on me and I hope you like it too. Apparently I can’t get enough of h-themed alliteration. But honestly, “Headphones and Hormones” pretty much sums up my life as a single mom of two teenagers perfectly.

If your kid went from mommy’s little angel to a middle school menace with whom you only communicate via text (even in the same room), you get it. And apparently perimenopause is a thing, so there’s that. I should have enough material to last me at least until “Hot Flashes and Hibernation.”

Hope you enjoy!

I had my daughter at 23! We are the baby mommas for sure, all for mom friends are at least 10 year older than me. 🙂 I think it makes you grow up really quickly though–and we will definitely be the “cool” moms when they are teenagers. 😉

Ha! So true! Plus, when they’re off to college, we’ll still be so young! Might be a good time to reclaim a little bit of youth 😉
